SDS partners with the Sacramento Observer in shaping the future of organ donation in Black communities
October 21, 2025

Sierra Donor Services is proud to announce an important initiative from The Sacramento Observer in partnership with Word In Black. They’re conducting a national survey to understand better how Black Americans feel about organ donation, their hopes, concerns, and what truly matters when making decisions for themselves and their families.
It only takes about 10 minutes to complete the survey, and participants can enter for a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card!
Deadline: The survey is open through Friday, October 24.
Why this matters:
Black Americans make up 28% of the U.S. transplant waiting list, but only 13% of organ donors. By listening to real voices in Black communities, we can better address the challenges, build trust, and create meaningful change in the way organ donation is discussed and understood. Your voice can help inform future outreach and education efforts, bringing us all closer to a world where every family feels seen, heard, and supported when it comes to organ donation.
Every response and every share brings us closer to a better, brighter future for all. The deeper our understanding, the greater the impact we can make together.
About Word In Black

We serve as a trusted bridge between communities and national media, providing original reporting, amplifying local stories, and focusing squarely on racial equity and Black American experiences across health, education, justice, culture, and more.
