Sierra Donor Services Sparks Legislative Action with Donate Life California for Lobby Day
April 29, 2025

Advocating for Change
In partnership with Donate Life California, Sierra Donor Services, the three other organ procurement organizations in our state (One Legacy, Lifesharing and Donor Network West), and Donate Life Ambassadors with personal connections to donation all gathered in downtown Sacramento on April 22 to advocate for the bill AB 466.
This bill would mandate organ donation education to be provided to all California State College & Community College students and would be instrumental in providing information to the next generation of eligible organ, eye and tissue donors.
We had over 50 meetings that day with legislators, informing them of the bill, sparking meaningful conversations about donation and asking for their support on the bill.

About the Bill
Our relationship with the CA Department of Motor Vehicles is crucial for our cause – 98% of all registrations on the Donate Life CA Donor Registry come from the relationship with the DMV. Unfortunately, studies show that youth are applying for their driver’s licenses much later in life. With this, we are losing a critical opportunity to educate our youth on the importance of their decision to register.
Assemblymember Solache joins us to sponsor bill AB 466 to address this issue, asking for organ donation education to be provided to all California State College & Community College students in the way that best suits each college’s population.
