Kings Game: Black History Month Kickoff
February 19, 2024
During a recent Sacramento Kings game, Sierra Donor Services made a notable appearance to shine a spotlight on Black History Month. Their booth drew in a diverse crowd, each person eager to share their own connection to donation. From friends rallying around a transplant recipient to families touched by the gift of life, the stories shared were truly touching and showed the profound impact of donation on so many lives.
Amid the heartfelt moments, Prince Pela stepped forward to share his own journey. Currently waiting for a kidney transplant, he attended the game with his wife, Igho, who works as a nurse at UC Davis and is a Donate Life Ambassador. Prince opened up about his wait since 2017, his plea on social media for a matching donor, and his six-year battle with dialysis. Despite the challenges, he’s remained determined, even pursuing his dream of becoming a registered nurse. Now, as he and his wife hope to start a family through IVF, the need for a kidney becomes even more pressing.
Through adversity, Prince remains steadfast in his determination, drawing strength from his studies and the unwavering support of his loved ones, but the gift of a new kidney would offer him the chance at a brighter future.
Prince Pela, accompanied by his loving wife Igho Doghor, finds comfort in cheering for the Sacramento Kings as he bravely awaits the lifesaving gift of a kidney.
