DMV – California
SDS, as a partner to Donate Life California, has built strong relationships with each of the 17 California Department of Motor Vehicle field offices in its area. Each field office has been “adopted” by either a SDS staff member or a trained Donate Life Ambassador who arrange planned visits a minimum of once a quarter to their respective field office(s). Each visit, the “adoptor” brings newsworthy updates, materials and also requests feedback on public perception, frequently asked questions, and any issues and ideas for further education. The DMV is the most critical source of sign-ups on the Registry; roughly 98% of the more than eight million people on the registry, signed up through the DMV. Six of the top 10 performing field offices in the state for highest percentage of signups on the Registry are in the SDS area.
SDS offers in-class informational presentations where students can learn facts, ask questions and hear personal stories from trained speakers. Donate Life Ambassadors are available to speak to your school about organ and tissue donation, and specifically the positive impact transplantation has had on their lives.
These trained volunteers have all been personally touched by organ and tissue donation. The recipients have been given renewed life. Meanwhile, donor family members find donation helps turn their tragedies and sorrows into feelings of triumph and joy.
SDS also has available an educational DVD, “Your Decision to Donate,” created for high school health or science classes. A resource guide to complement the “Your Decision to Donate” DVD includes lesson activities to assist teachers with in-class assignments or homework.
For more information on obtaining a speaker or the DVD/Resource Guide for your school, please contact Deanna Santana, Senior Public Education Coordinator or by calling, 916.678.6016.
