- It’s crucial to discuss your donation decision with your family, doctor, and other healthcare providers. It is also important to register as an organ, eye, and tissue donor on our website.
- Who makes the arrangements?
- The recovery agency coordinates the donation process, including transportation and necessary medical procedures. The family is responsible for funeral arrangements.
- How and to where/whom is the body transported?
- After a person passes, their body is typically transported to a medical examiner’s office or funeral home. If that individual is a donor, they might also be transported to facilitate the recovery surgery in a hospital. Normal coroner/funeral transport costs are paid for by the family.
- Is the donor returned to the family when the donation process is completed?
- After the donation process is complete, the remains are returned for final arrangements. The family can choose burial or cremation according to their preferences or cultural traditions.
