How We Support Donor Families
Saying goodbye to a loved one is heartbreaking. The grief can be overwhelming, but families tell us in the midst of the tragedy, they find comfort in knowing their loved one’s gift of organ and tissue donation leaves a lasting, living legacy of hope and healing. Organ and tissue donors and their families represent the best of humankind.
We understand how important it is for you as a family to know what type of support is available following your loved one’s gift of donation.
We’ll provide a list of helpful resources, bereavement materials, and information on local support groups. An extensive list of resources is also available from the National Donor Family Council.
The reality is that you will grieve forever. You will not ‘get over’ the loss of your loved one, you will learn to live with it. You will heal and you will rebuild yourself around the loss you have suffered. You will be whole again but you will never be the same. Nor should you be the same, nor should you want to.
