Sierra Donor Services Honors Donor Heroes at Día de los Muertos Celebration
November 5, 2024
Sierra Donor Services (SDS) proudly participated in Souls of the City, Sacramento’s largest Día de los Muertos event hosted by Sol Collective on October 26. This vibrant celebration of life and remembrance brought together community members from all walks of life to honor their loved ones who have passed.
SDS was honored to be part of this special event as an opportunity to connect with the community and recognize donor heroes, those who have passed away giving the gift of life by being organ, eye and tissue donors.
Our booth was staffed by members of the National Hispanic Association of Nurses – Sacramento, our commmunity champions for Latino outreach efforts and Jess and Theresa Chairez, parents of donor hero, Officer Joe Chairez.
We also had a beautiful ofrenda display with traditional Día de los Muertos decorations, including photos of organ and tissue donors heroes, as well as people who have died while waiting for their lifesaving transplant.
Souls of the City was a truly special event that brought people together to celebrate and remember their loved ones. SDS was proud to be a part of this important community event while raising awareness for organ, eye and tissue donation!
Sierra Donor Services’ ofrenda was also featured on Good Day Sacramento!
SDS Senior External Affairs Coordinator Kyla Aquino Irving shared the immeasurable value tissue donors have when it comes to saving and improving lives. She was joined by Savannah Hall, a funeral director and mastectomy survivor, who shared her gratitude for the donor hero who helped her heal.
One tissue donor can help support up to five mastectomy recoveries!
