Honoring Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month!
May 29, 2024
Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month is recognized each May to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of the AAPI community.
At Sierra Donor Services, AAPI Heritage Month is also a time to raise awareness about the importance of organ, eye and tissue donation and the health disparities that exist within the AAPI community and other communities of color.
Despite the high need, AAPIs are less likely to register as organ donors compared to other racial and ethnic groups due to several factors, including cultural beliefs, language barriers and a lack of awareness about organ donation.
Out of the 20,000 patients waiting for lifesaving transplants in California, over 20 PERCENT are Asian American/Pacific Islander.
To honor AAPI Heritage Month and encourage more AAPIs to register as donors, Sierra Donor Services highlighted individuals and organizations that help to encourage lifesaving organ, eye and tissue donations in our community.
We also engaged our partnerships with local AAPI organizations like the Philippine Nurses Association, the Association of Physicians of Indian Origin and the Sacramento Asian Chamber of Commerce to distribute organ donor registration materials.
Together, we are using our voices to save more lives than ever!
Remember: We all have the power to Donate Life! Save lives as an organ, eye and tissue donor by registering today at SierraDonor.org.
