SACRAMENTO, CA – With more than 17 years experience in the healthcare industry, Angela Brooks has stepped into the role of Director of Hospital Services for Sierra Donor Services*, the Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) serving the greater Sacramento area.
Ms. Brooks joins the nonprofit, federally designated transplant donor network from California Transplant Donor Network, the OPO based in Oakland, California. There she functioned as Advanced Practice Coordinator, providing oversight of donor cases to ensure the best medical care was provided for maximizing the donation gift. Prior to that, Ms. Brooks worked as an Organ Recovery Coordinator, as well as a Registered Nurse within an Intensive Care Unit. She says those experiences will serve her well in her new role.
“When I was in the field by the bedside, I knew I was saving lives. Now, in this new role, I look forward to having an even greater impact, by influencing more people. Specifically I want to work with our hospital partners to maximize each gift through a unified approach. This would include quickly stabilizing the donor, which in turn would decrease the hours spent on each case, requiring less staff time and cost to the hospitals. Ultimately, this will mean even more lives saved through donation.”
Ms. Brooks notes she is passionate about donation – her cousin received a cornea at age 10. “He had a cold sore, which caused herpes in his eye. Because he received the gift of sight, he was able to play baseball and was a pitcher. He’s now 36 years old and able to live a full and productive life.”
Ms. Brooks says she will build on the core values of Sierra Donor Services, which include passion, hard work, dependability and positivity.
“I look forward to advancing SDS’ vision even further – of ensuring that every person in need receives the ‘Gift of Life’. I’ll work with SDS to build on the excellence, innovation and caring already exhibited by this organization – to save and improve even more lives.”
