(Sacramento/Natomas) In a rockin’ evening under the stars, on Thursday, September 29 from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., Sierra Donor Services (SDS*) honored 400 hospital and community partners who have shown exceptional dedication and willingness to go above and beyond in helping to save lives through their support of organ and tissue donation.
“This is our way of paying tribute to our partners for life within our hospitals and communities who remain deeply committed to the cause of saving lives through donation,” said Monica Johnson-Tomanka, Chief Executive Officer of SDS. “These people are not only serving the families of patients who choose to donate, but are also saving and enhancing the quality of life for hundreds of critically ill patients in our region. When you think about the friends and families of each donor family and transplant recipient affected, the impact is enormous.”
Amid live entertainment, which included music by “The Hits,” SDS staffmembers honored individual, hospital and community member “Rock Stars for Life.” Awards presented included: Individual Star Champions, as well as Shining Star Hospitals. Among the winners: Star Achiever (Best Performing Hospital), Mercy San Juan Medical Center; Best Emergency Department (tie): Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento Medical Center and University of California Davis Medical Center; and Best Operating Room, Marshall Medical Center.
